WORLD INDUSTRIES YOUTH WEEK 2013 WRAP

World Industries Go Skateboarding For Youth Week 2013 has come to an end, but what a week it was for over 20 areas Australia-wide. Regions that currently don’t host regular Hub activity got to enjoy a day (or two) full of fun through skateboarding with this huge learn to skateboard program, demos from our coaches and lots of prizes to give away thanks to World Industries. Check the entertaining clip below to see a montage of highlights throughout the week. A HUGE thank you once again to all the councils involved who helped make this all possible and to everyone who came out to the events! We hope you all had fun. Here’s what our State Managers had to say…

“There is no better way to celebrate the youth of NSW than with some skateboarding and 2013 provided plenty. We saw some amazing sessions passing through the Eurobodalla, Greater Hume, Upper Hunter, Armidale, Tamworth and Moree communities which made it very clear that skateboarding is on the up and no matter where you end up there is amazing young humans shredding every where, and to me that’s well worth celebrating.” Simon Wills – New South Wales Development Manager

“Go Skateboarding for Youth Week 2013 came out with a bang for Queensland, the superstar line up from 2012 Patty G and Max Schubert were at it again hitting new locations such as Roma, Logan, Bowen and Airlie Beach. In addition, Toowoomba’s Andy Williamson showed the huge PCYC festival a thing or two about skateboarding. These little QLD rippers couldn’t get enough and we can’t wait to come back next time!”  Jim Dandy - Queensland Development Manager

“Youth Week came around so fast this year! I can’t believe a year has elapsed since I was making arrangements for Brett Royden and Chris Jones to get down to King Island for a two-day workshop last April. Well, last years King Island trip must of been superb as the community welcomed us back with open arms. Its not just the Bass Straight benefiting from Skateboarding Australia (SbA) visits; SbA are getting the know the youth of Tasmania-at-large quite well. Dorset Council had their Scottsdale and Bridport skateparks rocked over two days, Bridport attracting huge numbers on the Sunday as the weather cleared. Our Tasmanian team Hayden Baker, Scott Atkins, and Tim Jones then zoomed to the Break O’Day region out on Tassy’s East coast where kids crowded the picturesque Scamander skatepark; World Industries foam hands were waving everywhere! Big thanks to Healthy House and Beyond Blue for hosting the Break O’Day event. The Tassy team then trekked through mountains to the West Coast region of Zeehan to do more of the shred-sharing; unfortunately it rained heavily and had to be cancelled. Not to worry, SbA will be visiting later in the year with a bit of sunshine. Big thanks to Melissa at Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre for putting in a super effort to what would of been a great day had the clouds disappeared. Speaking of sketchy weather, Victoria was lucky to have its only World Industries Youth Week event happen! Brett Royden and Scotty Standley headed to the Moe skatepark in the Latrobe City to give some fresh energy to an old skatepark. The morning session went super well, guys and girls in equal ratio enjoying the SbA experience until it rained early in the afternoon. These who were dedicated enough to stick around got to see an awesome demonstration by Brett and Scotty, who really know how to use a skateboard. The best thing about Youth Week was heaps of new people got to try skateboarding, and loved it! ” Richard Flude – National Development Manager

WA skatparks at Esperance, Manning and Pinjarra were packed out for our SbA Youth Week program. We had kids of all ages making new friends and having a great time learning to skateboard in our FREE skate clinics. And as if that wasn’t enough we gave out spot prizes to everyone who participated. It was a huge success and we can’t wait to do it all again next time. Huge Thanks to all the kids, parents, SbA coaches and of course the staff from the Shire of Esperance, City of South Perth and the Shire of Murray. We all worked together as a team and it really benefited the local youth. Ben Bowring – WA Development Manager
