Leading coaches from Skateboarding Australia (SbA) will hit Darwin early next month to roll out its highly regarded learn to skate StreetWise program.
In an effort to develop skateboard capacity in the Northern Territory, SbA Hub mentors Dylan McNamara and Flavio Biehl will provide free sessions at a number of Darwin skateparks as well as school visits. SbA aims to encourage new participants to the sport allowing them to enjoy the freedom of self-expression in skateboarding. The organisation works closely with local interests and councils to collaborate on ongoing skateboarding activities that revolves around local skateparks in a Hub region.
SbA Project Coordinator Greg Fox believes the visit will be a stepping stone to developing regular skateboarding activity for local children. “Our philosophy with StreetWise is “No Whistles, No Boundaries’ – so we try to have very little structure but lots of encouragement within these sessions”, Fox said
As part of the need to develop the grassroots of the sport, McNamara & Biehl will also be hosting an accredited Level 1 Coach Course, for any interested parties keen to learn the finer details of delivering skate. Further, a StreetWise session will be held in Katherine on the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday.
SbA’s development visit to the NT is supported by the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Sport, Recreation & Racing. To register for an upcoming Darwin or Katherine StreetWise session, go online: www.revolutionise.com.au/sbadarwin
